Celebrate Good Times Come On!!

Woo Hoo, I made it! I would like to thank everyone who has been with me through out the night in my attempt to help homeless animals at the Nebraska Humane Society. I wasn’t sure what I got myself into when I started, but I’m so glad I participated. If I end up participating next year I think I’ll stick to one blog, twitter account and Facebook Page.

Thank you to everyone who followed along and thank you to everyone who donated!! NHS surpassed their fundraising goal and we helped twice as many animals because all the donations were matched!

I’ll end on this note!! Have an enjoyable Sunday!

Kitty Litter Cake

I’m not sure why I didn’t post this earlier.  At the shelter we like to have some fun every now and then by holding food days! On Halloween we held a food day and one of my co-workers got very creative with her Kitty Litter Cake. Photo pictured below and so are the ingredients! Enjoy!!

Ingredients
  • 1 spice or German chocolate cake mix
  • 1 white cake mix
  • 2 large packages vanilla instant pudding mix, prepared
  • 1 large package vanilla sandwich cookies
  • green food coloring
  • 12 small Tootsie Roll candies
  • You’ll also need:
  • 1 new kitty litter pan
  • 1 new kitty litter pan liner
  • 1 new pooper scooper
Directions
  1. Prepare cake mixes and bake according to directions (any size pans).
  2. Prepare pudding mix and chill until ready to assemble.
  3. Crumble white sandwich cookies in small batches in food processor, scraping often. Set aside all but about 1/4 cup. To the 1/4 cup cookie crumbs, add a few drops green food coloring and mix until completely colored.
  4. When cakes are cooled to room temperature, crumble into a large bowl. Toss with half the remaining white cookie crumbs and the chilled pudding. Important: mix in just enough of the pudding to moisten it. You don’t want it too soggy. Combine gently.
  5. Line a new, clean kitty litter box. Put the cake/pudding/cookie mixture into the litter box.
  6. Put 3 unwrapped Tootsie rolls in a microwave safe dish and heat until soft and pliable. Shape ends so they are no longer blunt, curving slightly. Repeat with 3 more Tootsie rolls bury them in the mixture. Sprinkle the other half of cookie crumbs over top. Scatter the green cookie crumbs lightly on top of everything — this is supposed to look like the chlorophyll in kitty litter.
  7. Heat 3 Tootsie Rolls in the microwave until almost melted. Scrape them on top of the cake; sprinkle with cookie crumbs. Spread remaining Tootsie Rolls over the top. For the coup de gras take one Tootsie Roll and heat until pliable, hang it over the side of the kitty litter box, sprinkling it lightly with cookie crumbs. Place the box on a newspaper and sprinkle a few of the cookie crumbs around for a truly disgusting effect!

Blog-a-thon Helps Make Moments Like These…

Shellie spent two long months searching for a new home at the Nebraska Humane Society.  She depended on the staff and volunteers at NHS to keep her company while she waited patiently.  Funds raised during Blog-a-thon 2011 help NHS provide for animals like Shellie who find themselves at the shelter longer than she would have liked. Blog-a-thon 2011 Makes moments like the one below possible. Check it out!

Meet Pinky- She’s looking for a Forever Home!

Hey there, I’m Pinky! I came from a great home, but my owners unfortunately had to move away. So, here I am! I am front declawed, and I get along great with other cats and kids. The kids I lived with were 2 1/2 and 1 year old, so toddlers are a not a problem for me at all.  I am kind of a scaredy cat, so until I get used to an environment I tend to come across as very shy. However, some good old fashioned TLC is all it takes to get me to open up. I would really love a new home, do you think it could be with you?

Pinky is currently looking for a home at the Nebraska Humane Society, which is open today until 5 p.m!

This is What it’s All About

I was going to post this on the NHS website, but we’re currently experiencing some technical difficulties on our site. So here’s the post we were going to post there.

This is what this entire thing is all about.  This morning I received an email from the foster mom of Foxy Roxy, the Naughty Kitty and the Nameless kitty.  Turns out people read our posts about them and contacted the foster mom.  So we’re not only raising money for homelss animals we’re also finding animals homes!

This is awesome news and made staying up late totally worth it!!

Help an Animal and Possibly Win a Video Game

This is going on right now over on the Nebraska Humane Society website until 10 a.m.

A video game could be yours with a donation to NHS.

From the NHS Post:

We’ve had a late addition to our Blog-a-thon post line up. Would you like to help homeless animals AND cross an item off your child’s Christmas List. For the next hour (9 a.m. – 10 a.m. Central Time) the person with the largest donation to NHS during that time will receive a copy of the new hit game Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 for Playstation 3. So you’ll help a homeless animal, your donation will be matched AND you can do your holiday shopping, what more could a person ask for??

Good Morning!

The sun is coming up and the roosters are crowing, so that must mean it’s morning! Enjoy this little video to wake up you this morning!

Did you know that sometimes NHS gets in ducks, chickens and roosters? Just the other day we had a goat looking for a new home. If you’re looking to add a Barnyard Buddy click here to check them out!

I am a lion hear me… MEOW!

Did you know that the Nebraska Humane Society partners with the Omaha area PetSmarts to help get more animals adopted? So if you can’t find time to make it to the shelter you can always adopt one of NHS’s fabulous felines by stopping by a PetSmart.

This pretty little Princess is currently at the Shadowlake PetSmart. She’s a 7-year-old spayed female, gray Domestic Mediumhair mix. When she arrived at NHS her hair was extremely matted and our groomer and to give her a hair cut to help get rid of the pain.

Sorry for all the cat posts! NHS currently has 54 cats looking for homes and we’re trying as hard as we can to get them adopted. Plus, I’m more of a cat person than a dog person.

A little sassiness to jump start my morning

No, no, no the post isn’t talking about my attitude right now, I want you to meet Sassy! He’s a 10-year-old cat who has a lot of life left in him and he would really like a new home before the holidays.

Sassy is his name, and getting adopted is his game.   He’s a gorgeous black cat who would really love a new home, do you think it could be with you?

I’ve now bought a juicer and some weight loss equipment…

I’m posting a little later than I would have liked during this 5 a.m. hour because my computer ran updates and restarted and then we had some troubles logging in.  I took a small break from Twitter earlier because my eyes were tired of looking at the computer screen.  While I was away I bought a juicer, some weight loss equipment and I may or may not be a member of a new religious organization.

Man there is NOTHING on TV during the wee hours of the morning. Thankfully, I’ve been keeping you entertained with cute dog and cat photos and stories. I’m not wired on caffeine and I know look a little like Pumpkin’s expression.

P.S. Who wants juice??
