Kitty Litter Cake

I’m not sure why I didn’t post this earlier.  At the shelter we like to have some fun every now and then by holding food days! On Halloween we held a food day and one of my co-workers got very creative with her Kitty Litter Cake. Photo pictured below and so are the ingredients! Enjoy!!

Ingredients
  • 1 spice or German chocolate cake mix
  • 1 white cake mix
  • 2 large packages vanilla instant pudding mix, prepared
  • 1 large package vanilla sandwich cookies
  • green food coloring
  • 12 small Tootsie Roll candies
  • You’ll also need:
  • 1 new kitty litter pan
  • 1 new kitty litter pan liner
  • 1 new pooper scooper
Directions
  1. Prepare cake mixes and bake according to directions (any size pans).
  2. Prepare pudding mix and chill until ready to assemble.
  3. Crumble white sandwich cookies in small batches in food processor, scraping often. Set aside all but about 1/4 cup. To the 1/4 cup cookie crumbs, add a few drops green food coloring and mix until completely colored.
  4. When cakes are cooled to room temperature, crumble into a large bowl. Toss with half the remaining white cookie crumbs and the chilled pudding. Important: mix in just enough of the pudding to moisten it. You don’t want it too soggy. Combine gently.
  5. Line a new, clean kitty litter box. Put the cake/pudding/cookie mixture into the litter box.
  6. Put 3 unwrapped Tootsie rolls in a microwave safe dish and heat until soft and pliable. Shape ends so they are no longer blunt, curving slightly. Repeat with 3 more Tootsie rolls bury them in the mixture. Sprinkle the other half of cookie crumbs over top. Scatter the green cookie crumbs lightly on top of everything — this is supposed to look like the chlorophyll in kitty litter.
  7. Heat 3 Tootsie Rolls in the microwave until almost melted. Scrape them on top of the cake; sprinkle with cookie crumbs. Spread remaining Tootsie Rolls over the top. For the coup de gras take one Tootsie Roll and heat until pliable, hang it over the side of the kitty litter box, sprinkling it lightly with cookie crumbs. Place the box on a newspaper and sprinkle a few of the cookie crumbs around for a truly disgusting effect!

Blog-a-thon Helps Make Moments Like These…

Shellie spent two long months searching for a new home at the Nebraska Humane Society.  She depended on the staff and volunteers at NHS to keep her company while she waited patiently.  Funds raised during Blog-a-thon 2011 help NHS provide for animals like Shellie who find themselves at the shelter longer than she would have liked. Blog-a-thon 2011 Makes moments like the one below possible. Check it out!

Meet Pinky- She’s looking for a Forever Home!

Hey there, I’m Pinky! I came from a great home, but my owners unfortunately had to move away. So, here I am! I am front declawed, and I get along great with other cats and kids. The kids I lived with were 2 1/2 and 1 year old, so toddlers are a not a problem for me at all.  I am kind of a scaredy cat, so until I get used to an environment I tend to come across as very shy. However, some good old fashioned TLC is all it takes to get me to open up. I would really love a new home, do you think it could be with you?

Pinky is currently looking for a home at the Nebraska Humane Society, which is open today until 5 p.m!

I’ve now bought a juicer and some weight loss equipment…

I’m posting a little later than I would have liked during this 5 a.m. hour because my computer ran updates and restarted and then we had some troubles logging in.  I took a small break from Twitter earlier because my eyes were tired of looking at the computer screen.  While I was away I bought a juicer, some weight loss equipment and I may or may not be a member of a new religious organization.

Man there is NOTHING on TV during the wee hours of the morning. Thankfully, I’ve been keeping you entertained with cute dog and cat photos and stories. I’m not wired on caffeine and I know look a little like Pumpkin’s expression.

P.S. Who wants juice??

Hello November 13th!

So my next post was going to be a continuation of my riveting retinal story, but I think we all might need a pick me up. So here is a fun video I put together for NHS awhile back to celebrate Friday’s. I know the video is about Friday’s but it can help you celebrate the arrival of Sunday.  P.S. I hope this song is stuck in your head for the rest of the night.
